Lovejoy High School

Cathy Koziatek is in her 19th year as a choral music educator, and her 25th year as a teacher. This will be her fourth year as Director of Choirs at Lovejoy High School. She spent 13 years at Plano West Senior High School as Associate Director of Choirs and AP Music Theory teacher. In addition to team teaching the large choral ensembles, Ms. Koziatek directed the mixed and women’s a cappella groups who received acclaim for their performances of student-created arrangements of contemporary pop hits. Ms. Koziatek has served several positions in Region 25 including High School Vocal Division Chair. She is a member of TMEA, TCDA and TMAA.

After many years of teaching juniors and seniors, Ms. Koziatek started a new path in her career: for two years, she taught 5th grade general music and 6th grade choir at Sloan Creek Intermediate School in Lovejoy ISD where she also conducted a 5th grade choir and co-directed the Lovejoy Children’s Choir. Her 6th grade choir performed for U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson and Texas Representative Scott Sanford and received accolades for superior performance at local festivals.

Ms. Koziatek received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance with related fields in Music Theory and Vocal Pedagogy from the University of North Texas where she later earned her K-12 music certification. Ms. Koziatek holds Kodàly certification in both the traditional and choral track. She taught voice lessons for several years before moving to classroom teaching, and she continues to sing professionally around Dallas. Ms. Koziatek has been the Assistant Conductor of the Women’s Youth Chorus of Greater Dallas and frequently serves as a substitute for WYCGD/YCGD ensembles.

Outside of school, Ms. Koziatek enjoys creative pursuits such as crocheting and redecorating her house. She is also a dog person who loves to spend time with her own furry child, Bijou, a Bichon Frisé.
